Marshwood now has a defibrillator which is accessible twenty four hours a day. The automated external defibrillator (AED) was purchased by Marshwood CLT through a scheme run by the British Heart Foundation. Thanks to the Walther family it is housed in a heated cabinet on the wall of Marshwood Garage.
AEDs such as this are fully automatic and can be used by just about anyone. It is very safe and will only provide a shock after it monitors activity through the pads attached to the patient, and then only if a shock is actually required. Built in automated voice commands talk the lay person through using the AED and it even gives feedback on how effectively CPR is being performed.
The AED and cabinet were purchased for the local community by Marshwood CLT using money paid as ground rent on Bramblehay by Hastoe Housing Association.
